OBJECTIVES
The First International Congress on Tibetan Medicine
will provide a perfect opportunity to create an initial exchange, dialogue and greater
understanding between the traditions of Tibetan and Western medicine.
The First International Congress on Tibetan
Medicine's goals and objectives are to:
- Introduce the Tibetan medical tradition to the
scientific, medical and academic communities of the United States of America.
- Provide an interdisciplinary forum for serious
dialogue between traditional practitioners and Western scholars, scientists and
clinicians.
- Present the results of current clinical and scientific
research on Tibetan medicine.
- Present and discuss the potential/or current uses and
applications of Tibetan medical practices to Western biomedicine.
- Provide, in many cases, the first opportunity for
practitioners of traditional Tibetan medicine from around the world to compare their
diverse practices, methodology, adaptations and developments.
- Explore issues of environmental degradation in the
Himalayan region and the implications for the area's protection, access to medicinal
plants, animal and mineral resources for medicinal purposes.
- Demonstrate the spiritual basis and practices of
traditional Tibetan medicine.
- Develop recommendations for future international
collaborative action-plans needed to promote, preserve and research the heritage of this
ancient medical practice.
